Eintracht Frankfurt can't get past a goalless draw against Union Berlin. The Toppmöller team misses a lot of great opportunities.

Frankfurt – Eintracht Frankfurt has to be content with a 0-0 draw against Union Berlin. After the 3-1 defeat in Dortmund before the international break, the Hessians suffered the next setback in the battle for international places, but remained in sixth place in the Bundesliga.

Eintracht Frankfurt suffers a setback in the fight for Europe

After the international break, the Hessians woke up after the break, but then missed numerous good opportunities. The SGE remains sixth for the time being, but there are still games ahead, including against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich - and the pursuers are getting closer in the race for the international places.

The lawn in the Frankfurt Arena had been a topic of conversation in the run-up to the event. After the DFB team's international match against the Netherlands, some players complained about the poor condition, and national coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke of a "catastrophe". But Toppmöller did not want to use this as an alibi.

“Slide game” in Frankfurt: Eintracht remains without a goal

In an uneventful first half, the Frankfurt team slipped away from time to time, but the greasy surface was not responsible for their unimaginative performance before the break. Eintracht often acted too awkwardly, winter signing Hugo Ekitike, who was allowed to play for the second time from the start, was offside when he had the best chance to do so (22nd).

Union had previously made a better start to the game. Coach Nenad Bjelica's Köpenick team, who played unchanged from their home win against Werder Bremen (2-1), scored several goals, but Yorbe Vertessen (4th) let go of the lead early on. Only after around 20 minutes did Frankfurt become more active.

Union's Mikkel Kaufmann (48th) opened the second half with a shot into the side netting after a bad pass from Ellyes Skhiri. After that, only Eintracht played for a long time, much more lively and compelling than before the break.

Ekitike (57th) and Omar Marmoush (59th) were denied by Berlin goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow within a few minutes. On the next Eintracht attempt by junior Dina Ebimbe (66th), Danilho Doekhi saved on the line, national player Robin Koch (85th) headed just over shortly before the end.
