Did they recognize him? The last time the New York Knicks faced Victor Wembanyama, it was in the cold of November and the Frenchman was only playing his 8th game in the NBA. In the majestic setting of Madison Square Garden, very close to the undoubtedly dazzling neon lights of Times Square, “Wemby” missed his match. The New York public, sensing a little weakness, took advantage of it: “Overrated”, they shouted from the stands.
“MVP, MVP” (for Most Valuable Player, the title of best player of the year) San Antonio fans responded Friday evening. Victor Wembanyama had just scored 40 points (his record) and had led his team to a prestigious success (130-126) over the Knicks who had been walking on water for several weeks.
