Rainy Classic, Happy Classic. This could be the new favorite expression of the Parisian players, winners of their best enemies Marseille (0-2) on Sunday, at the Vélodrome, in Dantean conditions. Rain, wind… Nothing was spared for the actors. It was nevertheless boiling in the stands, fireworks to boot. On the field, however, OM had to lose, again, despite having numerical superiority for more than a half... Valiant, Jean-Louis Gasset's players lacked accuracy and efficiency in front of goal. Not Vitinha or Gonçalo Ramos.
Aggressive in duels, not clumsy with the ball and eager to play quickly forward, the Marseillais could not dream of a better start to the match, after an opportunity harvested by Ruiz (5th). Danilo almost deceived Donnarumma (6th), alerted by Aubameyang (14th). Part of the Vélodrome believed in it after the Veretout mine (16th). Highligths. But no goal. No precision. And after a quarter of an hour, Paris took the reins, mastery, control, with Dembélé gaining momentum.
The former Barcelona player eliminated four players before… hitting wide. However, he was valuable in orientation, combining well with Kolo Muani on several occasions, the latter coming up against Lopez (29th). The highlight of this first period came in the 41st: Beraldo received a direct red after viewing the images on video. Already warned a quarter of an hour into the game, the Brazilian could (should) have received a second yellow. It was deserved. Red is more mysterious, not to say unfair (0-0 MT). Vitinha turns on the air conditioning, Ramos kills the suspense
At 10 against 11, and with Lee in place of Kolo Muani, it was Paris who attacked the second act best, sending shivers through the Vélodrome with Hakimi and Dembélé in quick succession (49th). After a clever delivery from “Dembouz”, Vitinha did not miss the opportunity to open the scoring (0-1, 53rd). Air conditioning in the Vél' fridge!
Veretout thought to warm up the atmosphere but his goal was refused due to an offside position (59th). And Gasset was caught up by the physicality of some of his players, having to replace Mbemba, Balerdi and Kondogbia following problems. His Parisian counterpart was tapping away on his bench in anticipation of the next games, starting with the Coupe de France semi-final against Rennes on Wednesday. He did not hesitate to take out Mbappé – surprised and not happy – and Dembélé (65th), who immediately returned to the locker room. OM were now in control, but Donnarumma did the job (76th, 77th, 79th) before being replaced by Vitinha (80th) to keep a clean sheet.
Paris bent more and more without breaking, even if the entry of the ghost Skriniar did not help the visitors. That of Ramos, much more: Ramos made the break and killed the suspense with a counter flash from a corner (0-2, 86th). Crystal clear. Donnarumma still had the opportunity to shine (88th), completing a success which allows Paris to maintain a 12-point lead at the top of the ranking. OM are seventh, outside the European places.
