“I actually wrote to friends of mine: 'You're looking for eggs on Sunday and I'm looking for the coach,'” said Eberl on Saturday evening in the catacombs of the stadium about the now somewhat slow process of finding the Bavarian coach. When he was asked what was true about the rumors surrounding the Austrian national coach Ralf Rangnick, he replied: "As much as Antonio Conte is already sending us player lists of which players we want to look for."
Sky expert and record national player Lothar Matthäus, for example, spoke out in favor of national coach Julian Nagelsmann returning to FC Bayern - and mentioned the 54-year-old southern Italian Conte as an alternative. Nagelsmann's contract with the German Football Association (DFB) ends after the home European Championships in 2024, meaning the 36-year-old from Upper Bavaria would be available for free in the summer.

Conte, meanwhile, coached Inter Milan between 2019 and 2021. He was also coach of Chelsea FC and - quite successfully - at Juventus Turin. The Italian coach has been without a job since his engagement at Tottenham Hotspur ended (November 2021 to March 2023). And: The still influential ex-boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who sits on the supervisory board of the professional company, is considered a big fan of Italian football.
