French biathlete Chloé Chevalier is having a poor World Cup season and is now revealing the reason why.
Paris – The 2023/24 biathlon season is over and Chloé Chevalier probably wants to forget it very quickly. The Frenchwoman experienced a very bitter winter and even lost her starting place in the World Cup in December. On her Instagram account, the 28-year-old gave a reason related to her bad departure.
Biathlon ace makes viral illness public
“Winter is coming to an end. The Pfeiffer's glandular fever, which I contracted at the beginning of winter, disrupted my season. The desire to compete led me to put on the bib number in several races, even though I knew my body was in no condition to perform,” wrote Chevalier, admitting the serious mistake to have not simply cured the disease.
“It was tough in terms of sport, but I can smile because I am infinitely grateful for what the winter has brought me outside of my life as an athlete,” continued the Frenchwoman, who started the biathlon season with high hopes and in wanted to cause a sensation in the World Cup.

It was only shortly after being transferred from the World Cup to the second-class IBU Cup that the 28-year-old pulled the ripcord at the beginning of the year. “With a little delay, I wish you a good year 2024. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I have to retire from biathlon for some time. “Thank you for the many nice messages since the beginning of winter, thank you to my partners for your goodwill and thank you to my friends and relatives, you are incredible,” the Frenchwoman’s statement read.

In addition to Chevalier, the transfer to the IBU Cup also affected Gilonne Guigonnat and Émilien Claude. The 28-year-old's two teammates fell ill with the coronavirus during the season and were no longer able to perform as well as they did. For Chevalier, the reason was unknown for a long time - until she revealed the secret herself.

In the 2022/23 season, Chloé Chevalier finished 16th in the overall World Cup and last winter wanted to finally step out of the shadow of her famous sister Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, who ended her career. Next season, the younger sister will have to make a new attempt to achieve this goal. (
