Last season didn't go as planned for biathlon star Stina Nilsson. The Swede is drawing conclusions – a lot will change next winter.
Stockholm – After the winter sports season is before the winter sports season. After a strenuous winter, the athletes can look forward to some relaxation to recharge their batteries. But the tasks ahead are already casting their shadows. This is also the case for Stina Nilsson, who has a lot planned for the coming season and is planning drastic measures for success.
Biathlon hope announces drastic measures after a weak season
The 2018 Olympic cross-country skiing champion didn't have an easy season. After switching to biathlon, Nilsson still has a lot of room for improvement in her shooting, and she is already one of the best on the cross-country ski trail. Now the 30-year-old has apparently reached a point where she can make the most of herself.
“I will try to change as much as possible. I want to make a fresh start, change the stock, change the action, to start with a brand new rifle,” Nilsson told Swedish newspaper
Expressen
. So everything should get better in the new season. Nilsson was relegated to the second-tier IBU Cup after the start in Östersund, and she only managed to return to the World Cup at the end of the season. Too little for their demands.

Cross-country skiing Olympic champion was cut from the biathlon team this winter
“Sure, there are bright spots where I am happy with my performance, the IBU Cup with the podium places and a nice finish in Canmore where I did everything right in the World Cup sprint,” said Nilsson, who however self-critically added: “ But all in all I had planned for more, I feel like I haven’t achieved what I can.”
Nilsson switched from cross-country skiing to biathlon four years ago and is considered a great hope in the Swedish team due to her past successes. In addition to the Olympic sprint victory in 2018, she can look back on twelve individual victories in the World Cup. Nilsson forms a biathlon dream pair with Emil Nykvist.

Stina Nilsson doesn't want to give up: biathlon restart planned
“When I jumped into it, I didn't really know anything about biathlon, how difficult it was or what it felt like to hold a rifle. But I was always humble because I knew it wouldn't be easy and when I look back, my best year as a biathlete was the second year," explained Nilsson, who doesn't want to finish her development just yet.
Her greatest success was third place in the sprint on March 5, 2022 in Kontiolathi, Finland. She knows “that the potential is there, I just have to find out what I did right back then and recall it.” While Nilsson doesn't seem to have had enough of biathlon yet, a biathlon ace (28) announced in tears a surprising end to his career.
