In a message posted on Instagram after the game, he explained that he felt “strongly” that his place was no longer on a US football field. “While being on the field, I didn't feel well. It is more important for my family and for me that I retire in good health rather than adopting a warrior mentality and limping out too late,” he added.
His three former NFL clubs all sent messages of condolence to his loved ones.
