When looking for coach Thomas Tuchel's successor, the question arises: Who should save this Bayern team? tz does the check.

Munich - The mood at FC Bayern is once again at its lowest point. After the embarrassing 2-0 defeat against Dortmund, there is not only a risk of wasting the season's goals with a similarly subpar performance in the Champions League, but the question also arises as to how such outliers can be explained. After all, it is a similar core of the group that has been disappointing time and again for years. When it comes to finding Tuchel's successor, the question arises: Who should save this team?

The number one favorite is currently Roberto de Zerbi (44). The Italian shaped Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion into a top team that regularly competes for European places. Although the “Seagulls” only have one of the lowest salary budgets in the league, de Zerbi manages to take even unknown players to a new level with his offensive game idea. This means that he not only fits into the profile of Christoph Freund and Max Eberl, who want to further focus on promoting talent, but also shows that he also stands for creative solutions in the event of possible (salary-related) departures such as Alphonso Davies.

His tactical orientation in a 4-2-3-1, in which the full-backs move into the center when in possession of the ball and thus ensure additional dominance, also fits perfectly with FC Bayern's self-image and is considered extremely modern in the industry. So it's no wonder that Pep Guardiola described the coach as one of the "most influential coaches of the last 20 years" last May. Jürgen Klopp recently said: “It’s unbelievable what he’s achieved. An incredible job.”

And: According to

tz

information, Pascal Groß at the DFB also raved to his national team colleagues and thus also Bayern players about the tactical level of his Brighton coach.

The problem: De Zerbi is not only being courted by numerous other clubs (Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea) and would cost around 14 million euros in transfer fees, but has hardly anything to show apart from his playing success. In Italy he once won the semi-professional Serie C cup (third division), and with Shakhtar Donetsk he won the Ukrainian Super Cup. This means: If there are phases in which things don't go well, de Zerbi is likely to wobble quickly despite his good reputation. Especially after the chaos of the last few years, FCB is longing for an authority that the team has respect for.

Things are completely different with Julian Nagelsmann. The national coach could return to Munich after the European Championships, but the DFB also wants to retain him in the long term. Due to the interest of both sides, Nagelsmann has a good negotiating position and is unlikely to come cheap. Furthermore, the record champions would send a chaotic image to the public with a return campaign. After all: Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, the two actors who fired Nagelsmann, are no longer in office. And thanks to the support of Uli Hoeneß, the coach enjoys a good standing.

Nagelsmann can also make tough decisions

By not taking Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry into account, Nagelsmann has also proven to the DFB that he is not afraid of tough decisions - and could still make the initially failed mission at his favorite club positive. After all, he is impressively showing at the DFB how to create a spirit of optimism.
