Speculation about Sebastian Vettel returning to Formula 1 has been going on for weeks. Lewis Hamilton continues to fuel the Mercedes rumors.
Suzuka/Munich – Sebastian Vettel was quiet for a long time. But the 36-year-old has been on everyone's lips again in the Formula 1 circus for a few weeks now. The rumors about the German's return to the premier class of motorsport persist. Recently, even Vettel himself fueled speculation about a comeback. Due to the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, Mercedes currently has a free cockpit for the coming season. The Brit himself can very well imagine Vettel as his successor at the Silver Arrows.

The German former world champion would be a “great option” for the Mercedes team, Hamilton said on Thursday (April 4) before the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. “It would just be fantastic if he came back. “He would fit in really well in the team,” added the British record world champion. Vettel has “strong values” and would definitely be an asset to Formula 1 and Mercedes. He was also a multiple champion and also German, Hamilton continued.

Vettel sensation at Mercedes? Apparently already in talks with Toto Wolff
The rumors about a Vettel sensation at Mercedes have been going on for weeks. The cockpit of the Silver Arrows will be free because Hamilton is moving to Ferrari after the season. His current teammate George Russell would also welcome Vettel to Mercedes: “Sebastian is a great person and a four-time world champion. His personality is missed here in the field of drivers.”
Vettel himself told the British broadcaster “Sky News” on Wednesday (April 3) that the free Mercedes cockpit was “certainly one of the best cockpits on the starting grid.” There are also said to have already been discussions with team boss Toto Wolff, but apparently not about a commitment in the coming season.

The list of possible Hamilton successors at the Silver Arrows is long and prominent. Mercedes boss Wolff recently made it clear that his ideal solution would be to free current world champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull. Another candidate is said to be ex-champion Fernando Alonso, who currently drives for Aston Martin - the team for which Vettel was last behind the wheel of a Formula 1.
The Heppenheimer announced the end of his career in a goosebumps video in July 2022 and resigned at the end of the season. Recently, Vettel no longer fundamentally ruled out a return to Formula 1. A comeback could be “appealing and interesting,” he told the British radio station X. However, it depends on the overall package, emphasized the 36-year-old family man.
