The biathlon Olympic champion Peppe Femling has ended his career and has now announced his plans for the near future.
Östersund – The 2023/24 biathlon season is in the books and several athletes ended their careers with the last race, including the German biathlon star Benedikt Doll. Another well-known athlete who hung up his skis is Peppe Femling. The Swede said goodbye to the last World Cup in Canmore, Canada.
Biathlon star announces retirement
“Resigning wasn’t a decision I made overnight. After the 2021/22 season, I started thinking about the end of my career and realized that there is also life after biathlon. I've really enjoyed my time as an athlete, but especially in the last few weeks I've realized that it's time to stop. I have always given my best and am now looking forward to everything the future will bring,” said the 32-year-old in an interview with the IBU.
Femling is proud of his achievements in his long career: “As a child, it is of course always easy to say that you want to be the best of all and win countless gold medals. As I got older, I realized how hard it actually is - I found it more and more difficult to believe in the great successes. That’s why I’m proud and happy about all the medals I was able to win.”

Now life after biathlon awaits the 2018 Olympic champion, who triumphed in the relay in Pyeongchang. But he will also miss a lot after his career ends, as he admitted to the IBU. “Probably life as a professional athlete, since you can make your own decisions about a large part of your time. Of course, I will also miss the travel and competitions with the team,” said Femling.
Biathlon Olympic champion comments on future plans
First he wants to switch off from the Biathlon World Cup before moving on to the next task. “I'll probably spend a lot of time on the golf course and in the mountains. Maybe I'll spruce up our house too. Real life will begin for me in the fall and I will start studying,” said the 32-year-old, describing his plans for the near future.

Peppe Femling made his World Cup debut in 2014 and closes this chapter ten years later. But what will be fondly remembered from this decade? “Definitely the good team spirit that has always surrounded us. And the many beautiful countries and places that I was able to travel to,” he concluded in the IBU interview. (
