For many fans, stickers of their stars are part of every major tournament. There is now a big innovation in the collecting fun for the 2024 home European Championship.
Munich – The 2024 European Football Championship in Germany is casting its shadow ahead. On June 14th, the DFB team opens the tournament against the Scottish national team in Munich's Allianz Arena. And as with every major football event, many fans not only look forward to the exciting games on the pitch - but also to collecting stickers. The album and the stickers for the home European Championship will be available, as usual, in various supermarkets, kiosks and gas stations from April 4th. Online advance sales have been running since the end of March. But fans have to prepare for a big change this year.
Sticker for the European Football Championship 2024: Panini out after many years
Until now, the scrapbooks for World and European Football Championships were primarily associated with the name of one company: Panini. Since Euro 1980 in Italy, the Italian company has released an album for every European Championship tournament. Over the years, the stickers have achieved cult status among children and young people as well as some adults and have sparked collecting fever before tournaments.
But this year, for the first time, Topps will produce the booklet and stickers for the European Championship tournament. As early as 2022 it became known that the US company had prevailed against Panini in the licensing process. Patrick Rausch, Topps marketing director for Europe and Asia, declared the sticker album for the European Championships
to be the “biggest project in the company’s history,” according to
Spiegel .

The scrapbook is still “the product of the tournament”. The target group ranges from 6 to 99 years old, parents and grandparents collect together with their children. Topps wants to further promote this culture and passion for collecting, said Rausch. As the advertising face for the sticker book for the European Championship, the US company chose none other than José Mourinho, who is also repeatedly considered a candidate to succeed Tuchel at FC Bayern.
The structure of the sticker album for the 2024 European Championships will not change much compared to Panini's predecessors. In addition to the squads of the 24 qualified national teams, there will be stickers of the stadiums, association logos and also special stickers of individual stars. However, Topps does not have all official licenses. This means that, among other things, the players from the host Germany, the reigning European champions Italy, England and France are not shown in the album with the official association logos and jerseys.

In order to fill the 88-page album with all the stickers, fans will have to dig deep into their pockets. There are a total of 728 stickers to collect. However, in a single package there are only six stickers for a price of one euro - that's just under 17 cents per sticker. The starter bundle including a collector's booklet, 24 stickers and ten packages is available for 15.99 euros. You can also purchase other sticker packages in different sizes online and at various points of sale.

Usually, over time, numerous duplicates accumulate, which can then be exchanged. Gambling for stickers is also popular in school playgrounds. The start of sales of the European Championship stickers should not only fuel the collecting fever, but also the anticipation for the tournament after the recent strong performances of the DFB team. However, if you don't have tickets for the European Championship yet, you will probably have to watch the games at home on TV or at public viewing.
