The Ski World Cup is dominated by Marco Odermatt. But the Austrian is now considering no longer competing in his best discipline.
Vienna – Marco Odermatt is probably the best skier in the world at the moment. In the recently ended winter sports season, he not only won the overall World Cup for the third time in a row, but also secured the small crystal balls in the Super-G, downhill and giant slalom. There is no cure for him, especially in giant slalom, but how long does he want to continue competing in this discipline?

“In the giant slalom I almost rode for myself or was only able to beat myself. It's different at speed, where you have driver against driver. Then I have to push the limit more to get the crucial hundredths out of it,” said Odermatt in a recent interview with the
Neue Zürcher Zeitung

The 26-year-old can imagine only competing in the downhill and super-G disciplines in the future and completely forgoing the giant slalom. “Driving three disciplines is very intense, mentally and physically. I won't be able to do this for another ten years. Maybe another three or four years until the upcoming major events are over,” said the Austrian.

After the 2026 Olympics in Milan & Cortina d'Ampezzo and the 2027 World Cup in Crans-Montana, the giant slalom could be over for Marco Odermatt.
Will ski dominator Odermatt soon no longer compete in the giant slalom?
Most recently, the ski dominator had to accept a loss because his long-time fitness coach Kurt Kothbauer ended the collaboration. Marco Odermatt is anything but happy about the farewell to his long-time companion. “It's really a shame because Kurti and I worked perfectly together. I owe him a huge amount, his training methods are absolutely brilliant. But I can very well understand that he is looking for a new challenge,” he said in an interview with Blick

Marco Odermatt has had some successes in recent years. At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing he won gold in the giant slalom, a year later at the World Championships in Courchevel he won again in the giant slalom and also became world champion in the downhill. He also secured the overall World Cup three times in his career. (
