Josip Stanisic will return to FC Bayern from Leverkusen in the summer. The Croatian is unhappy that Xabi Alonso is not following the same path.

Munich/Leverkusen – Josip Stanisic continues to dance at three weddings...

With Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the defensive all-rounder is in the DFB Cup final and in the quarter-finals of the Europa League against West Ham United after the confident 4-0 win against Düsseldorf. In the summer, Stanisic will probably return to FC Bayern as a newly crowned champion. However, his coach Xabi Alonso will not follow him, which apparently displeases him.

“Well, I’m glad he’s happy here. Of course it's a bit of a shame for me. Maybe I was hoping for a different outcome. But this is not a dream concert,” Stanisic explained about his coach’s commitment to Bayer on Wednesday evening after reaching the cup final. The Munich native does not hide the fact that he would have liked Alonso to move to FC Bayern. The Spaniard was long considered a dream solution for the German record champions.

Stanisic was loaned to Leverkusen in August. The current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who has to step down in the summer, did not trust the Croatian. The defender flourished under Alonso in Leverkusen.

Leverkusen star Stanisic is thriving under Xabi Alonso

“In hindsight, it was the right step. The hope was that I would get playing time and be able to develop further. It was difficult in the first half of the season and I was often more dissatisfied. In the end it's about the team, they have developed brutally," said Stanisic, who played ten of the last twelve Bundesliga games over the full distance and was also on the pitch for 90 minutes in the DFB Cup against Düsseldorf.

“For me it's all the better that I'm away from Bavaria and can still become champions. “It’s just fun, that’s why I’m a footballer,” says Stanisic happily. Leverkusen has a 13-point lead in the Bundesliga with seven games to go over FC Bayern, against whom Stanisic scored his only goal of the season in a 3-0 win. The 24-year-old is heading back there for the new season.

Josip Stanisic will probably return to FC Bayern as German champion

Stanisic's advisor Dieter Hoeneß said at the beginning of March: “He will return again. He still has a contract until 2026. There is no clause and no purchase option for Bayer Leverkusen, so he will be back at FC Bayern in the summer.” It is therefore hardly surprising that Stanisic would have wanted Alonso to move to FC Bayern. The Croatian international could have continued to work under the Spaniard in Munich.

What is now crucial for Stanisic is who will be the new coach at FC Bayern and what plans he has for him. That's why the professional is still keeping a low profile when it comes to his future: "Until the last game is played, I won't think about anything else. Let’s see, you never know what will happen in the summer.”

Stanisic loan to Leverkusen: FC Bayern makes a big mishap with consequences

Particularly bitter for both sides: Due to the personnel shortage in the right-back position in the winter, FC Bayern invested 30 million euros for Sacha Boey. But the problem was homemade.

Before the Munich team had sporting competence at management level again with sports director Christoph Freund and sports director Max Eberl, Stanisic was loaned out without necessity and Benjamin Pavard was sold to Inter Milan. Just that Eberl

is probably targeting an FC Bayern wing duo.
