Madrid – Trouble again for Luis Rubiales! The former president of the Spanish Football Association was temporarily arrested on Wednesday (April 3). However, the arrest is not related to the kissing scandal last year.

Rubiales arrested after returning from the Dominican Republic

Rather, the 46-year-old ex-football official is facing allegations of corruption. Rubiales is suspected of receiving illegal commissions when the Spanish Super Cup was moved to Saudi Arabia. The Spaniard is accused of, among other things, money laundering and corruption, which the 46-year-old rejects. The Super Cup took place in the oil-rich Gulf state for the first time in 2020.

Rubiales was picked up at Madrid-Barajas airport immediately after returning from a stay in the Dominican Republic, a Spanish police spokesman said. Investigators said that the 46-year-old got off the plane accompanied by police officers before being questioned in the airport building.

Rubiales is now at large again

The former football official was in the Dominican Republic for work. His return was originally scheduled for April 6th. However, Rubiales postponed this in order to be able to defend himself in the current proceedings.
