Never directly affected by racist insults since the start of his career, the third row of Bobigny, Awa Diakité was last Sunday following his team's trip to Lons.

During an interview for our colleagues from

L'Équipe

, the player from the Ile-de-France club returned to this sad episode by emphasizing the importance of denunciation.

“I felt the need to talk about it and denounce it. It was inconceivable for me to leave this unspoken. Usually the racist remarks and insults only come from the public, so we don't really pay attention to them and we try to stay focused on the match. But as I expressed in my post, when you see that even some players are doing it, I find it really sad. I absolutely don’t understand how this can happen in a sport and even less in women’s rugby,”

she confided.

How today in 2024, can players make racist comments? It is important to denounce all of this.

The player then discussed possible solutions to eradicate racism from stadiums. For her, no distinction should be made between the field and outside life:

“We should learn not to make a difference on the field, and even outside it, so that people support the diversity present in sport and make themselves takes into account the wealth of our country through this diversity. For me, sport is an essential support for inclusion and the fight against discrimination. It’s a moment of sharing whatever the level.”
