FC Bayern is continuing to restructure its sporting leadership. The club ends the collaboration with technical director Marco Neppe.
Update from April 5th, 10:25 a.m.:
The departure is now official! FC Bayern announced their separation from Marco Neppe on Friday morning. The club and its technical director have ended their collaboration by mutual agreement after ten successful years, the Munich-based company announced. Neppe came to FC Bayern from Leverkusen on July 1, 2014 and most recently worked as technical director.
“I would like to thank Marco Neppe for the long collaboration. We celebrated many successes during this time, and outstanding talents such as Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala were discovered under Marco Neppe, who matured into world-class players in Munich,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He was an important factor in squad planning and not least because of his excellent network, including in handling many transfers. We wish Marco Neppe all the best for his future.”
Neppe himself also commented on his departure, which became increasingly likely after Max Eberl was hired as the new sports director. “I would like to thank FC Bayern for their trust, support and, above all, the opportunity that I have been given here,” said the 37-year-old, who joined FC Bayern as a scout in 2014. “It was a challenging, exciting and successful time with the 2020 Triple as the highlight. I wish FC Bayern and its wonderful fans maximum success in the future. FC Bayern will remain part of my history and I am proud of that.”
Silent departure of the Bayern boss: Neppe's contract has already been terminated
First report from March 18th:
Munich – According to
tz
information, Marco Neppe is no longer employed by FC Bayern Munich. The former technical director and the club mutually terminated the contract. Since Christoph Freund took office as sports director in September 2023, the 37-year-old has only played a minor role in the squad planning and sporting orientation of the German record champions.
FC Bayern is probably terminating Neppe's contract
Neppe was already left out of the eventful finale of the summer transfer window. In the winter he mainly took on scouting tasks and no longer had any decision-making power when it came to changes. Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were also not considered advocates for the 37-year-old.
FC Bayern Munich recently completed the signing of Max Eberl as the successor to Hasan Salihamidžić for the position of sports director, which has been vacant for several months. Eberl and Freund should determine the sporting direction on Säbener Straße in the future. There is no place left for Marco Neppe with the German record champions.

In 2014, Neppe was brought to FC Bayern by the then technical director Michael Reschke. He initially worked as a scout and then became technical director himself. He later became a close confidant of Salihamidžić, who had to leave the club together with chairman Oliver Kahn at the end of last season.
Neppe involved in Kane's Bayern signing
In the past, Neppe was instrumental in the signing of striker Harry Kane, which he carried out together with CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. However, the club has always remained cautious about Neppe's future.
During his time as Technical Director he also played a part in the signings of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Kingley Coman and Minjae Kim. With Marc Roca and Omar Richards, for example, the 37-year-old also made bad purchases that didn't help FC Bayern in terms of sport. It is not known what plans Marco Neppe has for his future and which club he could move to after Bayern leaves. His position at the German record champions is unlikely to be filled. (smr)
