Dino Toppmöller will remain SGE trainer in the long term. Markus Krösche trusts in change. But next season there will probably have to be better results.

Frankfurt – Things aren’t really going well at Eintracht Frankfurt at the moment. Despite sixth place in the Bundesliga, the SGE is not completely on track. Even in the most recent home game against Werder Bremen it was only enough for a 1-1 draw. Nevertheless, Markus Krösche sees no reason to discuss the coaching position. Rather, Eintracht's sports director is now supporting coach Dino Toppmöller - and giving him time.

one-two on Sunday (April 7th), Krösche commented on the situation of the SGE and also on coach Toppmöller. The Eintracht boss clearly ruled out the possibility that his involvement in Frankfurt would end after just one season. The coach enjoys the trust of those responsible over the summer, “because we simply believe that this path will be the right one,” emphasized Krösche, who did not look for excuses for the somewhat difficult sporting situation.

An important sign at the right time - shortly after Krösche's contract extension until 2028. The duo should lead the SGE in the coming years and continue on the chosen path. The 43-year-old sports director knows that the current upheaval is necessary. He recently described himself as “one of the most patient people there is”. He also exemplified this attitude in one-two.

“Not a dream concert”: Krösche gives SGE coach Toppmöller and the team time

“We took advantage of the opportunity to restructure the squad so that we can be successful in the next few years,” said Krösche, referring to the last transfer summer with numerous departures and additions. “We brought in a young coach. The fact that all these changes take time is taken into account.”

Also taken into account are sporting setbacks such as the disappointing exit from the DFB Cup against 1. FC Saarbrücken from the 3rd league and the early exit from the Conference League against Union Saint-Gilloise. “We are not always satisfied and we would sometimes like faster development. But sometimes it’s not a dream concert,” Krösche continued. Fluctuations in performance are “normal” under the auspices.

Krösche understands the disappointment of Eintracht fans – and announces stability

The disappointment and skepticism of some fans are “completely okay,” said Krösche, referring to “a certain level of expectation” as a result of the good performances in recent seasons. The goal of the Toppmöller team is now to play offensive football with “more control” than in previous years. “But you don’t see it that way at the moment,” Krösche admitted on the show.

He also made it clear that the upheaval would not last forever. “A year” is roughly planned for this. This also means that the Eintracht boss expects more stability from the Eagles next season. The Frankfurt team may then be back on the international stage. But the remaining program in the Bundesliga is tough.

Difficult remaining program: Is Frankfurt still slipping out of the European Cup ranks?

With six match days to go, Eintracht is on course for Europe and is in sixth place with 42 points, which would qualify them for the European Cup. Six points ahead of seventh place seems to be a safe cushion, but for the eagle bearers in the final spurt of the season they still have to face the top four of the Bundesliga, who are currently playing in a league of their own: VfB Stuttgart, Bayern Munich, Primus Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.

Only in the remaining duels against FC Augsburg, who are also aiming for the European Cup ranks, and Borussia Mönchengladbach is the SGE the favorite on paper. After the draw against Bremen, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp spoke of a “very negative cloud” that is currently hovering over Frankfurt. Nevertheless, the goalkeeper was optimistic about the last few games: “We have everything in our own hands.” And qualification for the European Cup next year would certainly bring a mixed season to a positive end.
