Swiss Nicole Good falls heavily in the Super-G

During the hard impact, the 26-year-old apparently lost consciousness and slipped toward the track barrier without any physical tension. Fortunately, the pace of the action wasn't particularly high, which is why she remained lying in front of the safety fences. Nevertheless, anxious moments of waiting begin after the fall.

First aiders immediately rush to the Swiss woman and put her in a stable side position. Good is treated on the track for several minutes and regains consciousness. Finally, the former junior world champion is taken to the hospital in Chur by helicopter.

Diagnosis after horror fall: No operation necessary

Shortly afterwards, there was the first diagnosis, which gave hope: “The initial examinations in the hospital in Chur revealed a concussion as well as fractures and abrasions in the facial area. The fractures are stable and do not require surgery,” the Swiss Ski Association said in a statement.

“Nicole was still accessible at the scene of the accident and the investigations have now shown that, fortunately, she did not suffer a serious brain injury,” explains Walter O. Frey, chief physician at Swiss-Ski, in the statement. During the course of the day, Good was able to be transferred from the emergency ward to the normal ward in the hospital.

After the serious crash, the race was initially stopped for 40 minutes and then stopped completely. However, this was not only due to the fall, but also to the rising temperatures of around 20 degrees. These had “increasingly softened the slope, which would no longer have guaranteed the safety of the drivers,” said Swiss-Ski.

There were also a noticeable number of violent falls this World Cup season. Ski superstar Mikaela Shiffrin, among others, ended up in hospital after a serious fall.
