FC Bayern is looking for a coach - and is finding it incredibly difficult. The question that quite a few people are now asking themselves: Does no one want to coach FCB?
Munich – The rejection of Julian Nagelsmann, who extended his DFB contract until 2026, is likely to have hit FC Bayern hard. The incumbent national coach was considered the crown favorite to succeed the outgoing Thomas Tuchel. Nagelsmann was far from the only one who gave Bayern a basket over the past few weeks and months.
Instead of FC Bayern: Xabi Alonso prefers to stay at Bayer Leverkusen
It has been clear since February 21st that Tuchel and Bayern will go their separate ways again at the end of the season. Since then, the rumor mill has been cooking at the highest level. In the recent past, there has been almost no top international coach who was not linked to a potential commitment to the German record champions. But that is now accompanied by a memorable flood of rejections.
The most prominent rejection came from preferred candidate Xabi Alonso, who does not consider his mission at Bayer Leverkusen to be over yet and has declared himself the new German champion for the coming season. Installing a placeholder for the Iberian is currently not an issue in Munich. Alonso is also said to be more likely to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, whose contract ends in 2026.
Ralf Rangnick publicly says no to FC Bayern
Ralf Rangnick, who was also on the candidate carousel, canceled just a few days ago during a press round. When asked whether there had been recent talks between him and Bayern, the Austrian national coach reacted clearly: “No. Why should I? I feel comfortable here. I still have a contract until 2026 and our goal and path continues after the Euro.”
Hansi Flick, who won the quadruple of the championship, DFB Cup, Champions League and Supercup with Bayern in 2020, can definitely imagine a return. Flick, it is still being reported in Spain, would prefer to take over the vacant coaching position at FC Barcelona next season.
Bayern coach search: No hot lead on Mourinho, Conte and Co.
There remain other names that sounded spectacular in connection with Bayern, but which were never concretely traced. In this prominent list, José Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, all of whom are currently without a club, must undoubtedly be mentioned. Mourinho is probably more interested in a national coaching position, Conte is considered a candidate for his great love Juventus Turin and Solskjær was just a crazy inspiration from the English media.
