A few days ago, Wikipedia was paralyzed following an attack in several countries. Now the online lexicon gets $ 2.5 million to protect the security of the platform.

A few days after the Wikipedia was massively disturbed by an online attack, the Web encyclopedia receives a million donation for countermeasures. The founding of media entrepreneur Craig Newmark brings $ 2.5 million to help secure the platform. The aim is also to better protect information about users, the Wikimedia Foundation said.

Newmark founded the Craigslist ad site in the 1990s and became rich. Meanwhile, he is active as a patron and previously donated nearly two million dollars for Wikipedia projects, as the online encyclopedia further communicated.

Unknown had paralyzed Wikipedia pages, including the German version, last Friday with a so-called DDOS attack for several hours. With such attacks, servers are forced to their knees with a flood of pointless requests.
