The co-founder of the climate protection group "Extinction Rebellion" was arrested after a SPIEGEL interview. The arrest is allegedly linked to a planned blockade of London Heathrow Airport.

Co-founder of the "Extinction Rebellion" movement was arrested outside a London café on Thursday afternoon. Shortly after an interview with SPIEGEL, several plainclothes police officers jumped out of their cars and handcuffed Hallam and an employee before being taken away.

Hallam told the Spiegel that his arrest was allegedly precautionary in connection with the planned Heathrow break.

Hallam and other activists have announced Friday morning at three o'clock local time to paralyze London's Heathrow airport for several days.

To this end, you plan to let toy drones rise around the airport. The action has long been announced and the activists say there is no danger because the drones should fly only at head height before the activists themselves call the police.

Hallam has also announced that it will launch a drone on Saturday itself. In an interview with SPIEGEL, he said, "I'm ready to go to jail, we face the biggest catastrophe in human history, and other forms of protest have not been able to stop it for the past 30 years, so we need massive civil disobedience."

"Heathrow Break" is a spinoff from Extinction Rebellion. Founded a year ago, Extinction Rebellion is considered the largest movement of civil disobedience in British history.

From October 7, 2019, the activists plan a "rebellion week" in XY countries worldwide, and there are already 52 offshoots in Germany.
