The autumnal jams will reach their climax next weekend. Motorists should therefore plan significantly more time for the journey. The reason: holidaymakers from 14 federal states are on their way to vacation or on their journey home, explains the ADAC. For example, in the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the autumn holidays begin, while they end in Hesse, for example, or in the second week in Thuringia. Only in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg is still regular school. There are long delays on these routes:

In the neighboring Alpine countries , the autumn tourist traffic is also very strong at times. The stowage routes include the Arlberg , Tauern , Fernpass , Brenner and Gotthard routes, as well as the major federal highways in Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia and Styria. At the three motorway intersections Suben (A 3 Linz - Passau), Walserberg (A 8 Salzburg - Munich) and Kiefersfelden (A 93 Kufstein - Rosenheim) motorists have to adjust to entry times into Germany for waiting periods of up to 30 minutes.
Leaving the highway in a traffic jam and driving on country roads, according to ADAC, rarely brings an advantage. The alternative routes are quickly blocked. Only from congestion of more than ten kilometers in length or in the case of full closure does it make sense to leave the motorway.
