Three researchers share the Nobel Prize in Physics this year: James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz.
The Nobel Prize, the most prestigious award of science, is endowed with nine million Swedish kroner - the equivalent of about 830,000 euros. The Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for the first time in 1901. The decision is made by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

In 2018, the Americans were won by Arthur Ashkin, Frenchman Gérard Mourou and Canadian Donna Strickland. With her at the 112th awards ceremony for the third time in the history of the Nobel Prize for Physics, a woman was awarded. The researchers received the award for their development of laser tools.
This year's Nobel Laureates are William Kaelin, Gregg Semenza and Peter Ratcliffe. The two Americans and the Briton were honored on Monday for their studies on oxygenation of cells.
