The makers of "Fortnite" are professionals in drawing attention to their product. Now the online game has been taken for hours offline - a PR move that upsets some fans sour.

The dream of some annoyed parents came true on Sunday night: "Fortnite: Battle Royale" is offline. No one can play the online action game anymore, whether via a smartphone or game console. Instead, players on the official video channels get shown a black hole for hours to the game. Also, who visits the game website will be forwarded to the transmission without explanation.

Millions of "Fortnite" fans have already looked at the hole-spattered hole stream, at times there are said to have been six million users at the same time. During an event titled "The End" in the game itself, the game world and all the characters in the black hole had previously disappeared.

Of course, the end of the game does not mean all that. "Fortnite", one of the most successful and most respected video games ever, will be back. Even a mini-game for the wait exists.

The failure falls exactly in the transition between the Seasons 10 and 11 of the game and is deliberately staged by the manufacturer Epic Games. Maybe the company is currently working on the game servers. Certainly, the uncertainty around "Fortnite" the game but also bring into conversation and build hype for the next, probably as usual again several weeks online season.

Unclear when it will continue

Epic Games is known for skillful PR stunts around "Fortnite": In the summer, for example, the company hosted a World Cup with $ 30 million in prize money. Such a long and deliberate offline take of the game as it has not yet existed in the "Fortnite" story - and the reactions are mixed.

So many players are curious what innovations will offer the next season - speculation is thereby about a completely new game world. Many fans are also annoyed that the manufacturer apparently withholds the game for staging reasons. Some angry fans complain that they have invested real money in virtual "fortnite" accessories, such as costumes, that they could not currently use.

However, players do not have to worry about their in-app purchases and their virtual achievements: they will be able to access them again. An official Sony Playstation account has already confirmed on Twitter that all items and V-Bucks reserves - meaning a virtual currency for "fortnite" - are "safe" during the blackout.

Even the Epic Games Store, a game sales portal by Epic Games, is currently working normally. Short-term problems on Sunday evening, which so also other games except "Fortnite" concerned, are now considered resolved.
