An advance of the Greens for a general speed limit on German motorways has failed in the Bundestag. In a roll-call vote, 498 MPs voted on Thursday to recommend the Transport Committee's recommendation to reject the motion. For the Greens application positioned 126 MPs, seven parliamentarians abstained. A total of 631 votes were cast, as Vice President Claudia Roth (Greens) announced.
The Greens' initiative had envisaged the German government to impose a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour on highways - as of 1 January 2020.

The Greens had requested a roll-call vote. However, the Transport Committee had previously recommended, with the votes of the Union, SPD, AfD and FDP, to reject the motion. Green politician Cem Özdemir did not expect a majority for the attack before the decision.
