2019-10-17T13:50:25.452Z

A speed limit on motorways in Germany is for now off the table. Against the background of the current environmental discussion, voting was very clear.

An advance of the Greens for a general speed limit on German motorways has failed in the Bundestag. In a roll-call vote, 498 MPs voted on Thursday to recommend the Transport Committee's recommendation to reject the motion. For the Greens application positioned 126 MPs, seven parliamentarians abstained. A total of 631 votes were cast, as Vice President Claudia Roth (Greens) announced.

The Greens' initiative had envisaged the German government to impose a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour on highways - as of 1 January 2020.
