ADAC: Posts for the traffic club are becoming more expensive

2019-11-14T15:10:53.373Z

For the ADAC to come out of the red, members have to pay more in the future. In addition, the membership magazine should no longer be in the mailbox, but in the supermarket - this should save millions of euros postage costs.

The General German Automobile Club (ADAC) increases the contributions for its 21 million members. This was decided by the traffic club at an extraordinary general meeting. The contribution increase was accepted by 228 votes with only 9 votes against.

According to this, the annual contribution in the basic tariff from April 2020 should increase from 49 to 54 euros. The previously elected by most members Plus membership is even 10 euros more expensive and will cost 94 euros in the future. Also newly introduced is a premium membership with worldwide breakdown assistance, pick-up service and towing to the desired workshop up to a distance of 100 kilometers, for 139 euros annual fee.

The ADAC has to save

The premium increase is the first since 2014. It should bring the club at least 10 percent more money in the cash. Because the revenue is no longer enough to pay for roadside assistance, services, digitization and the insurance tax that has meanwhile been paid for roadside assistance. Operationally, the association has been in the red for years. ADAC President August Markl said: "Greater efficiency and the adjustment of premiums together make ADAC financially well placed and in the black in 2020."

From January, savings will also help with the member magazine "Motorwelt". Instead of ten times, it is only supposed to appear four times a year, and the members are no longer sent to the house, but can pick it up at Edeka and Netto supermarkets. This should then save over 50 million euros postage costs.
