"Friends" creator reveals: Phoebe almost had another romantic ending
David Crane, one of the two creators and writers of the series "Friends," revealed that Phoebe Buffa, played by actress Lisa Kudrow, was almost a completely different romantic ending. On the NBC mythological sitcom, Phoebe ended up as Mike Hannigan's partner played by Paul Rudd, but she almost ended the series in the arms of ex-boyfriend David, played by Hank Azaria.
"There was definitely such a possibility," Crane said in an interview with a British radio station on Monday, adding that the filmmakers were "genuinely undecided" about the character's ending. "Both Paul and Hank were amazing players. Phoebe could have been great with either."
Would Phoebe and Mike stay together after 15 years? There's no telling. We might get some hints at this unifying blend between the six main series stars, marking the 25th anniversary of the series, which may be aired on HBO Max. According to a Hollywood Reporter publication last month, the talk is about "Uncensored Unification," which is why it's not a feature episode and certainly not a new season for the series. The new television session will be attended by Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt La Blanc and also creators David Crane and Martha Kaufman.
