Smog, purple traffic lights in Turin

The air quality traffic light in Turin turns purple. From tomorrow, therefore, the blockade of cars will also affect euro5 diesels registered after January 2013 and will be extended from 7 to 20, instead of from 8 to 19. All other measures already adopted remain in force. The City of Turin made this known, after yesterday the 20th consecutive day of PM10 was recorded beyond the limit of 50mcg / mc established by European legislation.

The purple alert level is triggered for the first time, as well as in Turin, also in the municipalities of the metropolitan area of ​​Beinasco, Borgaro Torinese, Collegno, Grugliasco, Moncalieri, Nichelino, Orbassano, Rivoli, San Mauro Torinese, Settimo Torinese, Venaria. Instead, the orange level restrictions continue in the municipalities of Carmagnola, Chieri, Rivalta and Vinovo. The concentrations of PM10, which in recent days have exceeded 105 micrograms per cubic meter, against a limit of 50 micrograms per cubic meter, remain extremely high but - informs the Metropolitan City - do not show significant deterioration. The ban on the use of domestic heat generators fueled by wood biomass (in the presence of an alternative heating system) with energy and emission performance that is unable to comply with the values ​​set for the 4-star class remains in force; the introduction of the limit of 19 degrees (with a tolerance of 2 degrees) for average temperatures in buildings; the prohibition of all types of outdoor combustion (ritual bonfires, barbecues and fireworks, entertainment purpose, etc ...); the ban on the spreading of livestock slurry.


ER alert rooms, emergency measures extended
In the meantime, the smog alert has risen in Emilia-Romagna so that the emergency measures to contain fine particles have been extended until Monday, including in the provinces of Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Ferrara and Ravenna and from tomorrow (always up to Monday) they will also start in the metropolitan area of ​​Bologna and in the Rimini area. In the provinces concerned, the threshold of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of dust Pm10 has been exceeded in the last few days. Among the emergency measures is the stop to Euro 4 diesel vehicles, or lower, from 8.30 to 18.30, the ban on the use of biomass for domestic heating and the lowering of average temperatures in homes up to 19 degrees and up to 17 in commercial premises.


In Rome Raggi defends the diesel stop: we protect health
"I am seeing many controversies and requests related to these diesel stop measures. Evidently our first goal is to protect public health, we are moving within the framework of what is provided for by the law, we are constantly waiting for the data".
