A 20-year-old medical student, who came from Brest with other young people to the Deux-Alpes resort (Isère), was found dead Thursday after falling into a ravine after leaving a nightclub. The young man had been missing after leaving the nightclub around 3 a.m. on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
"He had left the group of friends with whom he was and, for some reason, would have gone in the wrong direction," said Yann Bertrand, commander of the La Mure gendarmerie company, responsible for the station.
His body was discovered at the end of the afternoon "in the valley of Vénosc, a ravine between the station and the place called Vénosc". "In view of the observations, a priori, he made a fairly significant fall, more than 200 m," said the officer.
The privileged accident thesis
A few years ago, another young man fell into the same precipice under similar circumstances. If the investigation is still ongoing, "the thesis of the accident is privileged," added the squadron chief Bertrand.
According to the regional daily Le Dauphiné, "after several accidents in the past, fences and signage have been installed on the edge of this ravine located at the south end of the station". A priori, this was not enough.
The group of around 200 students from the University of Western Brittany (UBO) currently resides in the station, a stay which is not organized by UBO.

"His family had arrived at the station, and a listening cell was set up for his comrades," said the university, however, cited by France 3 Bretagne.
