"Harriet: The Road to Freedom" presents the incredible story of slave liberator Harriet Tavman. His directing is almost clumsy, but he makes up for it with the instructive and important story, and most of all thanks to the acting show by Cynthia Arribo, who deserves an Oscar nomination and deserves to win it too

Harriet Tomben recorded a number of outstanding achievements. Having freed herself from slavery, she helped free dozens more slaves during the Civil War. In addition, she enlisted in the Union Army and contributed greatly to him, becoming the first woman to lead a military operation during the war. This is a masterpiece, about which American students are already attending elementary school. A few years ago, it was also decided that her face would run above twenty-dollar bills, but then Trump entered the White House and his administration rejected it for at least eight years, for reasons defined as "technical."

What is not rejected is the fresh feature film about her, which is set to air here this weekend called "Harriet: The Road to Freedom." This is a week before its star, Cynthia Arribo, will attend the Academy Awards, where she was nominated for Best Actress category. Unfortunately, it is almost unnecessary to note that of the twenty nominations in the different game categories, she is the only one whose skin is not white.

Although Harriet Tamban was an exceptional woman, the film about her is not that. It turns out to be a fairly routine biographical drama, chronologically interpreting the heroine's story while occasionally assisting in rather cumbersome flashbacks. As befits the character of the main character, and of the community in which he lives, there is also a plethora of Christian symbols, and in addition, a mystical dimension. This is because director Casey Lemmons emphasized a certain element in the slave liberator's life - the fact that she was a kind of African American Jean Dark, and from an early age experienced visions that allowed her to see from a distance and helped her perform miracles.

Harriet's stories include a host of wonderful acts, depicted here in a way that creates a sense of transcendence. So, for example, in one of the beautiful moments in the film, she returns from one of her travels with so many slaves that anyone who helped her plan and organize this journey falls off the chair, in the most literal sense of the word.

In addition, the turn of events here also makes it clear how cruel slavery was in America. True, we've seen quite a few movies on the subject already, but each time learning new - and horrifying - details. In another key moment, Harriet is appalled to hear of a new law that allows for the release of slaves even if they succeeded in evading the Union states, which is just one example of many.

In this context, there is a point to the flaw in the way the film portrays most white confederates and blacks who assisted them. Almost everyone is cartoonish and ridiculously crafted, which harms the dramatic power and ultimately also serves these nasty and dark characters, who are portrayed as monsters and not as people responsible for their actions. In general, "Harriet" is made of a rough and heavy hand. Casey Lemmons is an esteemed director, who has been successful since the late 1990s, when she broke into "Eve's Secrets." Therefore, it is surprising that it is precisely the way she creates a show that is so weak and squeaky.

What saves the film is the instructive story, its historical significance and inspirational messages, as well as the views of several actresses. Two are outstanding. One is the wonderful Janelle Mona, who has an impressive track record - almost every movie she has made in the past few years has come to the Oscars, from "Moonlight" through "Behind the Numbers" to "Harriet: The Road to Freedom," where she manages to portray a woman running a hostel The slaves are liberated and also gives a hero to her hero. The second, of course, is Haribu, who plays the lead role.

The Aribu is required to carry the entire drama on its back and does so without blinking and without a fake character. Her expression-filled face combines the gravity of gravity with inspiring charisma. Her Oscar nomination, if anyone was in doubt, is not figured - but totally justified, and so will her winning. There will also be poetic justice, after the Trump administration arbitrarily delayed Harriet Tamban's entry into the banknotes cycle. Anyone who does not want to let her go for the money will get her holding gold.
