Free fall continues: The ratings for the Oscars were ever the lowest

These numbers are not surprising, given the continuing decline in broadcasting in general and award ceremonies in particular. The Emmy ceremony also suffered this year from the low data in its history.
The Academy Award should say that it is still the most-watched ceremony - much more than the Emmy, the Grammy and the Golden Globe. Also, it still has economic significance. All the films that were nominated for a large number of prizes were boosted by their box office campaign. "Parasites," for example, has already grossed $ 35 million at the US box office - a huge sum for a Korean-speaking movie. It is also likely that many are watching Oscars in streaming or illegal ways, or simply skipping the broadcast itself and filling gaps with abstracts on Twitter and YouTube. Still, we are in 2020.
