Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip, the new folding smartphone after the fold, as a breakthrough in the field with an ultra-thin, glass-folding display. However, now it does not seem to be the case. Zach Nelson, director of YouTube channel "JerryRigEverything," tried to test Samsung's theory that their screen really underwent some significant upgrading to the Galaxy Fold plastic display. The video shows permanent marks of scratches earlier than expected, long before real glass was scratched. Samsung claimed that the new device has a special over-screen protection layer, similar to the Galaxy Fold, which begs the question - are the scratches, clearly visible, only on its outer layer?

In a review by Nelson, he scratched the smartphone screens with a series of special screwdrivers of certain degrees to check when the display begins to show signs of damage. Smartphone screens in the past year have been able to show signs of damage only at the level of 6 or 7 in the screwdriver set. However, the Z Flip shows such signs already in Level 2 - the same rank as the Galaxy Fold showed signs of damage. Towards the end of the video, Nelson began to create whole holes in the screen, which he expected to stop working, but he did not appear to have any sign of broken glass. He captioned the video in "This screen is not scratch resistant in any way". Technology website The Verge tried to contact Samsung in response, but the company declined to comment.

The Galaxy Z Flip was launched last week, during the launch of the Galaxy S20 flagship device. Unlike the Fold deployed in the "Book" configuration, the Flip is deployed in the "Oyster" configuration, much like the old phones, such as the Motorola Mythological Razor. It features a 6.7-inch, full-HD, glass-coated screen, which gives the feel of a traditional smartphone screen, rather than a plastic coating like Fold. At the heart of the smartphone is a Samsung chipset throbbing, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It also supports fast wireless charging and a 3,300-millimeter-hour battery. This is a more "accessible" smartphone, with its price being NIS 5,599, compared to the Fold that cost NIS 7,999.
