Nissan Leaf e +, the new electric to the test

The test of the 62 kWh version, 400 km of autonomy and latest generation connectivity: this is how it goes (ANSA)

Nissan Leaf celebrates its 10th birthday, and is completely renewed. We tested in a couple of weeks the new Leaf e + with Tekna equipment, the latest generation of the Japanese electric sedan and forerunner of zero emissions which makes it the best-selling car in the world in the sector. The most important novelty is the autonomy which thanks to a more powerful 62 kWh battery pack now reaches almost 400 km with a full load of energy.

In addition to the renewed accumulator, the Leaf e + from our test features the most modern Nissan technology. The ProPilot stands out for all for autonomous type 2 driving and the e-pedal, which allows you to drive the vehicle by modulating only the accelerator pedal. The ideal, especially in the city, where you immediately become familiar with a completely new way of driving and that relies on technology for braking until the car stops even in traffic.

The silence and the remarkable acceleration (0-100 km / h in 6.9 seconds), typical of the electric, can push for a sport use of the car. But in this case, autonomy pays a pledge: an extension of a few hundred meters weighs for a few km on the energy reserve, Better, then, a more peaceful use of the selector in the new mode B, which increases the energy recovery during the deceleration but not without panache, the engine, possibly alongside the ECO mode for further energy savings. An optimal management that has earned Leaf the five Green NCAP stars for energy efficiency, with the highest score in the Clean Air tests thanks to the 100% electric propulsion with zero emissions thanks - among other things - to the e-Pedal technology that maximizes efficiency and practicality while driving.

The new battery of this 62 kWh version contains 288 cells compared to 192 of the 40 kWh version in the same space (the cells are now smaller) with a higher energy storage capacity. The new LEAF e + battery, guaranteed by Nissan for 8 years / 160,000 km, offers greater power with 160 kW (217 HP) and a distance with an autonomy of 115 km more than the less powerful version.

The 400 km of autonomy place Leaf e + at the top of the electric ones: the distance is decidedly abundant in the case of city use of the car or medium-range movements, but which can create some thoughts in case of long-range transfers due to the anchor scarce presence of high efficiency balusters: the real Achilles heel for the diffusion of full electric technology, which has nevertheless seen a marked increase in recent years. But even on this Nissan - like many other manufacturers - it works hard and is implementing an electrical network that already has about 80 Fast Charge columns installed at the dealer network throughout Italy. In fact, if fast charging is complete in 75 minutes, more than 11 hours are needed in the classic ones, currently the most popular. Time rising to over 40 hours in case of 'refueling' from the home electrical system. The 7 kW double-speed home wallbox from Nissan is an excellent compromise, with times that are reduced to just 8 hours.

New in this version is an increasingly marked connectivity that allows the app to completely manage the car via the app: from charging monitoring to the car locator, from the control of the lights and the horn to the remote switching on of the air conditioning and Nissan support and assistance .
The car we have in use is also equipped with park assist, which relieves the driver of maneuvers. Attention, however: the Japanese engineers have developed a system of high efficiency, but which still finds some difficulties in the unruly Roman traffic, the scene of our test. The interiors of this Tekna version are very well kept, while the infotainment is typical of the brand that also converses with Apple Car and Android Auto.

Prices from € 35,000, net of the € 6,000 eco-bonus provided for scrapping and the Nissan incentive. For the Tekna e + of our test, the price is around 46 thousand euros.
