Tuesday, while the new coronavirus had more than 73,300 cases on the counter, the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention delivered a more precise picture of the epidemic. Who are the sick? How old are they? How dangerous is the virus? To find out, Chinese experts have dissected the medical records of some 72,000 infected Chinese patients. Reassuringly, in the majority of cases confirmed by the biological test (80%) the infection did not give any serious symptoms. For the rest, 14% of the cases concerned severe forms (pneumonia, difficulty breathing) and almost 5% were in a critical state, marked by respiratory failure, septic shock or even a syndrome of multiple organ failure.
