Aston Martin V12 Speedster, aggressive fireball for 88 rich people

Built in a limited series by the Q department, it costs 883 thousand euros (ANSA)

It's called Speedster but it's not a Porsche. Without great originality, probably counting on the fact that it is a generic term, Aston Martin has chosen this denomination for its latest creation - produced in a limited series of 88 copies - which will begin to be delivered in the first quarter of 2021 at the price of 883,000 EUR. However, the V12 Speedster has features that justify its cost and make it an object for collectors, 'corroborating' a niche, those of hypercars with a petrol engine, which is increasingly shrinking in favor of that of electric or hybrids.

At Gaydon, home of Aston Martin, the V12 Speedster was shown during the virtual press conference (organized to replace the Geneva Motor Show) in an even more exclusive specification inspired by the legendary F / A-18 jet born from an exciting new collaboration with Boeing and created by the customization service of the Q by Aston Martin brand which, moreover, deals with the construction of this boat.

This extraordinary livery takes inspiration from the legendary fighter plane and is finished in Skyfall Silver, with contrasting satin black on the exhaust tips, vent grills and vanes. The dark theme is brought inside, with satin dark chrome, worked aluminum, black leather, black technical fabric, black carpets and door handles with bright red Aston Martin writing, creating a decisive look for this conceptual style.

The layout is that of an 'extreme' open two-seater and starting from the latest aluminum architecture Aston Martin uses elements of the DBS Superleggera and Vantage models to create a single platform. Front suspension with double swing arm and rear with multi-link scheme; the coil springs are adaptive damping and offer Sport, Sport + and Track modes. V12 Speedster mounts forged alloy wheels with standard 21-inch central locking and 410 mm carbon ceramic brakes on the front axle and 360 mm on the rear are standard.

The new Speedster is powered - as its name suggests - by the 5.2-liter Twin-Turbo V12 engine with a peak power of 700 hp and 753 Nm of torque. Mounted in the front position, it is coupled to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with a limited slip differential that manages the rear wheels. The V12 Speedster hypercar is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 per hour in 3.5 seconds and reaching a top speed limited to 300 km / h.

The custom-made bodywork is built almost entirely in carbon fiber. '' With the V12 Speedster - said Miles Nurnberger, director of design Aston Martin Lagonda - we are taking a step back and looking for inspiration in our past.

Since the launch of DB11, everything has looked ahead. Here, however, there is a clear descent from the 1959 Le Mans winner DBR1 to get to our celebratory CC100 Centenary concept in 2013. There is also a bit of DB3S from 1953 in the central section. No roof or screen, a large engine, low, with broad shoulders and an exaggerated and emotional style with double humps and the 'spine' that separates driver and passenger.

The light and low rear end contrasts with the bold front, with the enlarged grille, the unique headlights and the air intake on the front hood, a solution to accommodate the dimensions of the V12 ''.
