The electric drive of electric cars has a catch: after a few hundred kilometers, the vehicle has to be connected to the grid to charge. But a new battery should improve the range enormously.
- The majority of e-car batteries usually reach a maximum range of 500 kilometers.
- New technology should make it possible to get more kilometers on the speedometer - without stopping charging.
- Samsung developed a new solid-state battery.
The vehicle type and the electric car battery determine the maximum range that an electric car can cover. Where an Audi e-tron has to stop charging after about 400 kilometers, a smart EQ forfour only drives around 130 kilometers. But corporations are developing new technologies that could change that soon.
So Samsung wants to have made a "groundbreaking" development in the field of solid-state batteries , which should make ranges of up to 800 kilometers possible.

New solid fuel battery: prototype with 1,000 charges and a range of 800 kilometers
A research team from the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology published a study in the journal Nature Energy on solid-state batteries that could have more advantages than conventional lithium-ion batteries in electric cars. A prototype developed by the researchers should not only provide more safety, but also the life of the newly developed battery * should outdo conventional batteries. The innovative solid-state battery developed by Samsung should be able to withstand up to 1,000 charges without damage - and achieve a range of 800 kilometers.
According to the publication in the Samsung Newsroom, the development of new batteries should drive the spread of electric cars *. " The product of this study could be a fundamental technology for safer, more powerful batteries of the future . We will continue to develop and refine materials and manufacturing technologies for solid-state batteries to take the innovation of e-car batteries to the next level said Wie Dongmin Im as head of the research project.
