If you want to do without public transport in Corona times and do not have your own car, you may choose car sharing or call a taxi. What needs to be considered now?

Berlin / Munich (dpa / tmn) - How do we stay mobile in these Corona times? Sure, with a lot of distance between them. And we go on foot or bike. But what if more routes are necessary or there are physical restrictions?

If you currently want to avoid public transport and do not have your own car, you may use car sharing or call a taxi. ADAC and the Federal Association of Carsharing (bcs) explain how customers are currently behaving best.

What do I have to consider when taking a taxi in Corona?

Anyone who needs to see a doctor regularly for a chronic illness and gives the address of a practice should address this when ordering the taxi. The ADAC advises to point out that there is no suspicion of an infection with the corona virus.

Customers are currently getting into the taxi at the back right, with hands that are as fresh and thoroughly washed as possible. This increases the distance to the person behind the wheel as much as possible. Things are as silent as possible on the way - this protects not only passengers, but also the driver. If you have one, you can also put on a mouthguard.

Can't the driver put on a mask better?

Ask him if he has one - but calm and friendly, the auto club advises.

Should I prefer not to return a coin?

Taxi customers are currently better off using their EC or credit card when paying. If this is not possible, they refrain from returning the coin and rather approve a higher tip. Thoroughly washing hands, as quickly as possible after the ride, completes the little taxi etiquette in Corona times.

Which hygiene rules apply to car sharing?

Anyone who uses car sharing should also observe the currently applicable hygiene rules, such as those provided by the Robert Koch Institute and the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA), advises bcs managing director Gunnar Nehrke.

In practical terms, this means washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after driving in a car sharing car. In addition to better protection, one could also wear disposable gloves. Drivers should also always avoid touching their mouth, eyes or nose with their hands to reduce the possibility of a smear infection.

To better protect other users, they sneeze or cough only in the crook of the arm or in a handkerchief. The used paper is not left somewhere in the car, but is disposed of - like the gloves - outside in a trash can.

Should I disinfect the car sharing car myself?

The bcs does not recommend disinfection on its own. Because the number of potentially affected surfaces in the vehicle is significantly higher than you might think at first, says Nehrke. "In addition to the steering wheel and gear lever, all handles, all controls, including the touchscreen, rear view mirror, fuel filler cap, seat edges and levers for seat adjustment are included," he says.

For a comprehensive disinfection that not only creates a false sense of security, you have to take your time. And you also have to have the right resources on hand.

For example, soapy water is able to destroy the corona virus, the bcs relies on statements from virologists. With disinfectants it is important that they are explicitly labeled as "virucidal". Important for everyone who wants to do such a cleaning on their own car: You should check beforehand whether the agent used strongly attacks sensitive surfaces.

How often are carsharing cars cleaned?

The more the vehicles are used, the more often they are cleaned, according to the bcs. "As far as we know, car sharing vehicles are cleaned on average once a week," says Gunnar Nehrke. And at the moment the providers "put a special focus on the systematic cleaning and disinfection of the vehicle interior". Some would also have increased the cleaning frequency. But after each use, this is not possible with the vehicles distributed throughout the city.
