A six-week-old baby died from the new coronavirus in Connecticut, northeast of the United States. The governor of this neighboring state of New York, Ned Lamont, announced the news on Wednesday on Twitter.
“The tests confirmed last night (evening, note) that the baby was positive for Covid-19. It breaks your heart. We believe he is one of the youngest people around the world to die from complications from Covid-19, "said the governor.
It is with heartbreaking sadness today that we can confirm the first pediatric fatality in Connecticut linked to # COVID19. A 6-week-old newborn from the Hartford area was brought unresponsive to a hospital late last week and could not be revived. (1/3)

Three days before the announcement of the death, a baby under one year of age had died of SARS-Cov-2 in Illinois. Covid-19 disease is however widely believed to spare children, and very young victims are very rare.
The United States is officially the country most affected by the pandemic, with more than 200,000 cases identified and nearly 4,500 dead.
