A third Sudanese man, who lived in the home of the main suspect, was arrested. Two dead and five injured in knife attack

A third man has been in police custody since Saturday evening in the investigation into the knife attack perpetrated in the morning by a Sudanese refugee in Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme), the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office told AFP on Sunday .

Two people died from their injuries, and five others were injured. The two most severely affected victims, whose vital prognosis was started yesterday, are now out of danger, the mayor of Romans reported to France Info.

"It's very difficult for families, since we are in a situation of confinement," explains Marie-Hélène Thoraval. This rule obviously applies to the hospital. No opportunity to see his family having an exchange, and to be able to comfort themselves, so it was difficult ”.

"I'm still in shock but it will be fine"

Among the two people most seriously injured, there is Serge Founier, attacked in his tobacco shop. He is still hospitalized but his days are no longer threatened. " It's better. It will be fine. I'm still in shock but I'm trying to keep my spirits up, ”he reacted this morning from his hospital bed. He does not wish for the moment to evoke the scene of Saturday: "It is too early", he says, tested. His partner Ghislaine Auclair, injured more lightly, was able to return home.

The attack lasted fifteen minutes in the city center of Romans, Saturday morning, in shops and on the streets. A 55-year-old butcher died, as well as a 44-year-old restaurant server, who died before his 12-year-old son.

"An odious act", denounced President Emmanuel Macron on Twitter, before the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner went there, in the afternoon.

Three men are currently in police custody as part of the investigation into "assassinations and attempted terrorist assassinations". It is Abdallah Ahmed-Osman, a 33-year-old Sudanese refugee who committed the attack. During his arrest, he introduced himself as a 33-year-old Sudanese refugee. A status granted to him in June 2017, as well as a resident title.

Psychiatric expertise

At his home, the police found manuscripts in which the author, unknown to the police and intelligence services, complains "of living in a country of unbelievers". The National Counter-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office mentions a "murderous course determined to seriously disturb public order by terror". A psychiatric assessment is scheduled for this Sunday. The suspect, whose hearing had been delayed because of his state of agitation, said "do not remember what happened," according to a source close to the investigation.

Another 28-year-old Sudanese man is also in police custody. He is a friend of the alleged terrorist, who was present in the latter's apartment when the police came to search. It was while searching the accommodation of this second man that they arrested the third.
