Is the Mitsubishi ASX worth it with a long runtime?

The ASX has been driving on German roads since 2010. But the Mitsubishi could also undertake small excursions away from it, especially if it is traveling with all-wheel drive. How does the Japanese fare as a used car?

The ASX has been driving on German roads since 2010. But the Mitsubishi could also undertake small excursions away from it, especially if it is traveling with all-wheel drive. How does the Japanese fare as a used car?

Berlin (dpa / tmn) - The Mitsubishi ASX contains a small contradiction. ASX stands for Active Sport Crossover, but the manufacturer advertises the model as a compact SUV.

In principle, the leggy vehicle types are no longer distinguishable anyway. Clarity, on the other hand, in the quality of the Japanese: There are good grades from both the TÜV and ADAC, albeit with small drawbacks.

Model history: The ASX started in 2010. Since the start of the series, there have been four lighter updates that, among other things, have enhanced the look and safety features. Already in 2012, the Peugeot 4008 and Citroën C4 Aircross models came out on the technical basis of the ASX.

Body variants: The Mitsubishi ASX is a rather small compact SUV with all-wheel drive as an option - but only in connection with the larger diesel engine.

Dimensions: 4.30 m to 4.38 mx 1.77 m to 1.81 mx 1.62 m to 1.64 m (LxWxH), trunk volume: 419 l to 1219 l.

Strengths: Comfortable to pull something from the spot, because the engines are not lively, but the trailer load is between 1.3 and 1.8 tons. During the main inspection, the ASX appears to be rock solid: The "Auto Bild Tüv Report 2020" writes that only in a few cases does the Tüv detect any defects on the chassis or the steering joints. Also in terms of light, with the exception of occasional dropouts in the turn signals, "everything is in the green". Oil loss from the engine and transmission is rare.

Weaknesses: The examiners diagnose slight weaknesses in the functioning of the foot and parking brakes; the brake discs are noticeable in the third HU. Defects in exhaust systems occur - but "less often than the average," according to the report.

Breakdown behavior: The ADAC writes that the ASX gives "overall a good to very good picture". However, due to fluctuating registration numbers around the minimum number, the compact SUV does not appear in the club's breakdown statistics with all years. The ADAC lists the main flaws: Problems with turbochargers and transponders of the radio key for the first years of registration in 2011 and 2012, for the latter also in 2014.

Engines: petrol (four-cylinder with front-wheel drive): 86 kW / 116 PS and 110 kW / 150 PS; Diesel (four-cylinder with front and four-wheel drive): 84 kW / 114 PS and 110 kW / 149 PS.

Market prices (according to "DAT Markttspiegel" by Deutsche Automobil Treuhand, each with statistically expected kilometers):

- ASX 1.6 MIVEC Intense (2013); 86 kW / 116 hp (four-cylinder); 95,000 kilometers; 9800 euros.

- ASX 1.6 DI-D Plus (2015); 84 kW / 114 hp (four-cylinder); 85,000 kilometers; 11,600 euros.

- ASX 2.2 DI-D Top 4WD (2014); 110 kW / 149 hp (four-cylinder); 101,000 kilometers; 13 200 euros.
