2020-05-28T18:59:07.787Z

Najim, 26, is the brother of Marwa, an 11-year-old girl who died Wednesday in Montpellier after having apparently received in error a

Under what circumstances exactly did Marwa, 11, die? This is the subject of the investigation opened after the death of the young girl on Wednesday May 28 in the morning at the Montpellier University Hospital (Hérault). Admitted two days earlier to the hospital in Sète for stomach aches, the child seems to have received there by mistake an adrenaline injection which immediately led to a very serious deterioration in his state of health. An alleged medical error which today plunges his family into mourning and misunderstanding.

Seized of the case for manslaughter, the parquet of Montpellier did not wish to communicate on the file for the time being. As for the Bassin de Thau hospital, he said in a press release that "an internal investigation has been carried out to shed light on the facts". The establishment also says "to associate with the grief of the patient's family and relatives and offer them their sincere condolences". Contacted by Le Parisien - Today in France, the victim's big brother, Najim, 26, confides in the despair of his family.

How is your parents ?

NAJIM. They are devastated, I never saw my father like that, Marwa, it was his princess. When she was between life and death, we tried to hold on to the little hope that there was. Now we experience sadness, but also misunderstanding, anger and a desire for justice.

You have filed a complaint ...

I went to file a complaint for manslaughter on Wednesday, but a lawyer told us that we cannot exclude the possibility of a manslaughter either. Because we don't know exactly what happened, what this nurse had in mind ... We don't know this person, nor his psychological state ... We need explanations.

Did the doctors recognize the medical error?

Yes, they have been clear on this.

How did it go?

Marwa complained of stomach aches in the night from Sunday to Monday… My mother took him to the emergency room in Sète at 6 am Monday. We gave her a spasfon drip and it passed. The doctor had to issue him an exit order. Then a nurse, who was not there at the start, came and gave him another injection. Five seconds later, Marwa started vomiting blood. Then she went into cardiac arrest. The doctors took us to an office to tell us: "We are transparent, we are not hiding anything from you, there was an injection error on the part of the nurse". They told us that Marwa was going to be transferred to the Montpellier University Hospital. She died Wednesday around noon.

Can you understand such an error?

I am aware of the current situation in hospitals, with the Covid, the lack of resources, etc. But despite everything, when you have people's lives in your hands, you cannot say: "I made a mistake". When an 11-year-old girl returns to the hospital for gastroenteritis and dies, it is unacceptable, unjustifiable, unspeakable.

Who do you want in particular?

We blame the culprits: the one who gave the injection, the one who made sure that the adrenaline was where it shouldn't be, the one whose nurse was under his responsibility. We want justice to be done.

How long can the investigation take and what do you expect from it?

The police told us that it could be very long with this kind of case ... We expect the justice system to shed light on what happened, to condemn the culprits and to explain to us how it could happen.

Have you been able to speak with the hospital in Sète since the death of your sister?

I called the hospital in Sète yesterday to announce their death to them. They said, "Ah, okay." And nothing else. Now the dialogue will be between lawyers.

Did your sister have a medical history?

She was in very good health. She never had an operation or had an accident, and she also had no chronic illness. Everything was fine. Marwa put the animation in the house, it was a little girl full of life. She was happy to go back to college next year. She was flirtatious and greedy, it was the heart of the house.
