Virological tests: blood donation tests are long overdue

Last April, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) launched a large study in partnership with the Pasteur Institute to try to estimate the proportion of the population who had developed an immune response to the Coronavirus.


Knowing the number of people infected with Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic is crucial to estimate the risk of a possible second wave. The more they are, the greater the collective immunity, the less the virus can circulate " freely ". Alas, the number of virological tests carried out during this phase was far too low to give us even a vague idea ... There are only 150,000 positive PCR tests, while millions of French people have more likely been infected.

When an individual gets sick his body reacts to fight the virus. This immune response is characterized (most of the time) by the presence of antibodies in the blood.
