Japan is in shock. A young man in his twenties suspected of killing two family members and wounding at least two others with a bow and arrow was arrested by police on Thursday, according to local media.
The alleged murderer, a student, was arrested at the crime scene in a residential area of Takarazuka, between Osaka and Kobe (west of the country), according to local daily Kobe Shimbun.
Two adult women died from their injuries, the hospital to which they were rushed could only confirm their death, the newspaper said.
Police alerted by suspect's grandmother
The young man is said to have confessed to having killed several members of his family, according to the Kobe Shimbun. The reasons for his act were not known. He was arrested for "attempted murder" immediately, according to the public broadcaster NHK, adding that at least two other people were injured, a man and a woman, who are currently hospitalized.
Police were reportedly alerted by a woman's call that her grandson had shot her with an arrow, NHK said. Asked by AFP, the local police have refused to comment on the case for the moment.
Japan has a reputation as one of the safest countries in the world, including very strict gun laws.
