Facebook, Instagram and Twitter removed from their platforms this weekend a campaign video by US President Donald Trump after receiving copyright complaints, according to a Reuters report. The removed section featured photos and videos of protest marches and cases of violence following the death of George Floyd, an African-American citizen killed by a police officer, with Trump speaking in the background.

Twitter disrupted the video but left the post, while Facebook and Instagram completely removed the posts. Trump objected to the move they took to social networks in a tweet he wrote, calling it "illegal." Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey addressed the issue and wrote in a tweet on Twitter: "False and illegal. The video was removed because we received a copyright complaint. "Facebook, which also owns Instagram, noted that they had received a similar complaint.

Not true and not illegal.

This was pulled because we got a DMCA complaint from copyright holder. https://t.co/RAsaYng71a

On the other hand, the YouTube version was not removed from the platform, and Google, the owner of the video site, said the content does not infringe copyright. As of this writing, the video has over half a million views.

It is unclear which image or video attached to the clip violated the copyright and resulted in the complaint, but the decision to remove the section is likely to cause further tension between Trump and social networks. At the end of last month, the US President signed a presidential decree against what he called social censorship, which may pave the way for social networking lawsuits.
