Almost everyone has asked themselves when driving a car: What are the little black dots on the windscreen? The editors are now clarifying them.
- Everyone noticed them at least subconsciously: the black dots on the windscreen.
- But what purpose do they actually serve?
- There is a simple answer for that.
Windshield: what about the black stripe and dots?
One thing is certain: the vehicle designers have thought of something. First of all: The thick black stripe, from which the black dots emanate, is called " screen-printed edge " and consists of a baked ceramic paint.
What is (the use of) this halftone pattern found in most cars and trains windows border? It basically fulfills several purposes, as Stern.de reports: Above all, it should cover the adhesive material that holds the window together with the body . Otherwise, UV rays from sunlight threaten to destroy it.
The result : If this is not prevented, the seal on the glass window would become porous and the pane would detach from its structure. In addition, the applied adhesive or any residues cannot be seen, which would not look particularly beautiful after all.

Black dots on the windscreen: that's why the dotted pattern
The dots are appropriately called " screen printing dots ". Incidentally, there is no particular reason for the dotted pattern. These were actually only attached for aesthetic reasons - they only serve to conceal the transitions of the attachment and are intended to soften the optically massive impression of the black screen-printed edge and make it more harmonious.
