When the second-generation Tesla Roadster was unveiled in 2017, CEO Elon Musk said that the electric sports car had acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Shortly after this statement, Musk raised the stakes by publicizing the idea that Tesla could even add rockets to the Roadster to further enhance acceleration making it a real fireball. These rockets could allow this car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.1 seconds, according to Jason Fenske of the Youtube Engineering Explained channel, the proposed rocket would eliminate the rear seats of the car to make room for a tank that would contain compressed air. A pump operated by the battery pack would send compressed air to 10 engines positioned around the car. Some of those engines may be hidden behind the rear license plate, as announced in a tweet by Elon Musk himself. The advantage of the rockets is that they are not limited by the adhesion of the tires, as confirmed by Fenske. The power produced by an internal combustion engine or an electric motor must be channeled through the tires and if it is too much power that the tires can handle, the car will not be able to accelerate faster. At the time of the reveal of the car, Tesla had announced that the production of the Roadster would start in 2020, a date that will probably slip by a few years. The brand has indeed more urgent problems, including a continuous increase in the production of the Y model and the launch of the Cybertruck, whose production is expected to be in 2021: which means that the Roadster may have to wait until 2022.
