Red Bull accuses Renault of using an illegal engine in Austria

2020-06-24T11:37:55.338Z

"They used an F1 from two years ago but with new engines," says Helmut Marko of the private day that Renault completed at the Red Bull Ring.

Ten days. This is the time remaining for the Red Bull Ring pit lane traffic light to turn green and the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship to begin four months later. A test in the town of Spielberg that already has its first controversy between two old men friends of the paddock of the 'Great Circus': Red Bull and Renault.

What is the origin of this new controversy between Austrians and French? The 1,116 kilometers that Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon accumulated behind the wheel of the RS18 in the private test that the Enstone team organized last week in the state of Styria to prepare for the start of the season.

"They used a car two years ago but with new engines. I was surprised by its reliability, but I am more interested to know if Renault really needed to rent the Red bull Ring for its test," says Helmut Marko at the 'GMM' news agency.

It should be remembered that the technical regulations are very strict in this section, after banning in 2009 the working days that the teams, especially Ferrari in Fiorano, organized beyond the competition to promote the development of their cars.

The car of the current season can only roll a maximum of 100 kilometers twice outside the official calendar tracks to film promotional content, as well as in the two private trainings of the diamond brand west of the city of Graz it was always present an FIA emissary to ensure compliance with Article 10.2, something that perhaps Marko has ignored in his accusation and will surely be used by Renault to defend his innocence.
