Only domestic violence experienced a 4% increase during confinement, according to the report released this Friday by the Interior Ministry. During these nearly eight weeks when France operated in slow motion, between March 17 and May 10, Delinquency recorded a general decline of around 70%, this Friday highlights the statistics released by Place Beauvau.

During confinement, thefts without violence against people thus decreased by 78% compared to the same period in 2019. The drop is very significant for thefts with violence and house burglaries (-70%), thefts linked to vehicles (-63%), scams and breach of trust (-57%) and sexual violence (-55%), details the statistical service. Deliberate assault and battery on people 15 and over recorded a less marked decrease over this period (-28%).

3000 victims of domestic violence between the end of May

The number of domestic violence against minors over 15 years old, after having decreased during the first two weeks of confinement, rebounded sharply until it exceeded the figures for 2019, observes the ministerial statistical service of internal security (SSMSI). Two phases could be outlined over this period.

“During the first two weeks of confinement, the number of victims ( of domestic violence ) recorded fell sharply: it fell from 2,600 victims to 1,600 victims, a drop of -41%, between the week of March 9 and 15 and that of 23 to 29 March 2020 ", noted the statistical service.

However, as of the following week, the trend reverses and even after confinement, it continues to be much higher than a year ago, "reaching 3000 victims during the week of May 25 to 31, 2020, or 600 more than in 2018 and 800 more than in 2019 ”.

The SSMSI comments: “Containment has greatly influenced the conditions for filing complaints, for victims and the security forces. In addition, certain forms of delinquency could not take place in the context of confinement, while others were reinforced. "
