A Zurich zoo keeper was attacked and fatally injured by a tiger on Saturday, the zoo's management said in a statement.
Around 1:20 pm, "the zoo's emergency service was informed that a guard had been attacked by a Siberian tiger" in the enclosure reserved for felines.
A team of guards immediately went to the enclosure and managed to lure the animal out.
"Dead on the spot"
The 55-year-old guard was injured and could not be resuscitated and "died instantly," the statement said.
An investigation must establish how the incident occurred and "determine why the guard was in the enclosure at the same time as the animal".
