How to overcome tinnitus?

2020-07-07T05:53:08.042Z

Most commonly linked to hearing loss, tinnitus affects one in ten people. If it is not possible to silence these annoying noises, solutions exist to reduce them.

Living with a continuous hiss that only exists in one's head is the daily life of people suffering from tinnitus. Chatting in a noisy environment, falling asleep or working can be hellish, which can lead to anxiety and depression. The problem is far from negligible: around 10% of adults are affected, including 1% by a disabling form, according to the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). If there is no miracle cure for completely eliminating tinnitus, there are effective ways to alleviate it and get your life back (almost) normal.

Above all, it is better to seek the cause. " Having tinnitus can be the expression of a more serious problem, so do not hesitate to consult a doctor ", explains Jean-Luc Puel, director of the institute of neurosciences at Inserm in Montpellier. In 5% of cases, they are due to a vascular, inflammatory, metabolic or even neurological problem.
